Charles Fayette Lott

JUDGE CHARLES FAYETTE LOTT

Charles Fayette Lott was born July 1 1824. He served in the Mexican American war where he showed bravery. He began to practice law in 1848 and worked for the Supreme Court of Illinois until, drawn by the adventure the West could offer, he mortgaged his property and set off with a team of mules and mining equipment for California. Finding the mining life challenging, Lott went back to practicing law in support of the county’s development when Butte County incorporated in 1850. He was also elected as a State Senator then judge of Butte, Tehama, Plumas, and Lassen Counties in 1869. He also invested in mining. In 1856 Lott married Miss. Susan F. Hyer; they had two surviving children, Charles Fayette Lott born in 1873 and Cornelia Dear Lott born in 1876. He was for many years a member of the Oroville Board of Trade and was president of the Oroville Citrus Association for twenty years. On September 4, 1918 he passed away aged 90.
